1. Obtaining carport plans. There are a number of different ways to obtain decent and reasonably priced carport plans. You might design and plan your carport yourself. You can buy a package of architectural plans in any home improvement store or over the internet. Alternatively you could buy a carport kit. Another option is to hire a local contractor who will design the carport on your behalf. Whatever you do make sure you have some confirmed plans before starting construction.
Building a carport is an excellent car shelter compromise. The carport will protect your car or vehicle from the elements. Depending on the location of the structure the carport may also protect you from the elements while getting to and from your car. A carport can also provide additional shelter for other items such as a wood pile. However a carport is much easier to build and much cheaper to build than a full garage.
All construction projects including carport construction projects benefit from planning and forethought. There are a number of factors to consider when doing the advance planning for your carport. Careful thought and planning of a carport will pay dividends in the future. The failure to put effort into proper planning will undoubtedly result in a finished carport that fails to meet your needs and/or exceeds your budget. Among the factors that should be considered include the following:
5. Where will your carport be situated on your property? Try to think of the pros and cons of different potential locations before making a final decision. If the car port is beside your house you can share a mutual wall and thereby save some money. Will the carport add to the beauty of your home or detract from the appearance of your home? Perhaps it would be best for your carport to be a stand alone structure near your house or behind the house.
6. What type of roof best suits your carport given its location? Gable roofs are pretty but often single slope car port roofs are best. Single slope carport roof can also be called a lean to carport roof.
